The greater number of nominees placed in a number of categories has been kind to Australian rapper/singer Iggy Azalea, the Fancy singer has received six nominations for this years awards ceremony. Azalea leads the pack for the highest number of nominations, closely followed by Katy Perry, John Legend and Pharrell Williams with five nominations each.
The AMA’s, as they are commonly known will see a change in format for this year, one of the first since the ceremony was founded by Dick Clark in 1973. The majority of categories will see the usually three to five nominations, but the larger prizes, such as the Artist of the Year award will have ten nominations instead of the usual five.
Azalea’s large number of nominations was revealed on ABC’s Good Morning America, which saw the rapper nominated in a variety of categories for awards. Included in these categories are a number of rap/hip hop nominations, as always the confusions and controversy of the awards season continues with Azalea classed as a pop/rock artist in some categories and also in the rap/hip hop categories for others.
Azalea faces stiff opposition for the Artist of the Year award, which also features a number of stalwarts from the popular music industry Beyonce, Eminem and Katy Perry, newer artists are also included in the category with One Direction and Lorde also amongst the ten nominees.
One of the most anticipated categories during each AMA ceremony is the single of the year, which sees yet another nomination for Azalea. The global breakout hit Fancy is nominated in this category, with Azalea’s collaborator Charlie XCX scheduled to perform at the ceremony on November 23rd. One of the most popular awards ceremonies in the US, fan votes are counted for the winners and this years votes will begin to be cast from October 13th.
