Despite what appears to be howls of protest from the family of the late singer Aaliyah Dana Haughton aka Ailiyah, the Lifetime Network is proceeding forward on a film about the former R&B singer. It’s not so much that the Ailyah’s family object to a biopic being made about their daughter, but rather about single episode of her life. It seems that when she was 15-years-old, she fell in love with fellow R&B singer R. Kelly from Chicago, Illinois. The two eloped with Ailiyah falsifying her age as being 18. R. Kelly himself was 27-years-old. Needless to say, her family did not approve of the wedding nor did they stand idly by either. Rather, they promptly had the civil union annulled.
Ailiyah had a notable effect on another aspiring beauty from Barbados by the name of Robyn Rihanna Fenty who also decided to go by a mononym. She was known for her naturally sensuous character and had been modeling since the age of ten. However, she did one thing that has thus far alluded Rihanna and that is successfully transition into making films. While Rihanna did co-star in the big budget alien battle film “Battleship”, her acting was criticized and the film lost money for the film studio. In Aaliyah’s case, her debut film starring opposite Jet Li was a box office success grossing over $91 million on a budget of $30 million. Her second film entitled “Queen of the Damned” did not get a fair shake at the box office because the singer died in a tragic plane accident before it was released. She died in a plane accident when a video she filmed in The Bahamas completed a day early. Rather than wait another day to return home as scheduled, she and her crew boarded a smaller size Cessna and the weight of the occupants with their equipment caused it to crash shortly after takeoff killing everyone aboard.
