CHICAGO – It was supposed to be the “single greatest tell-all, in 22 years of doing this show, we’ve ever revealed on the air,” according to Oprah. The gab-show icon was referring to plans next month for an “out of the closet” interview of a man calling himself “Clark Kent.” The interview was to kick off a promotional tour for a follow-up book, “My Home on Krypton: Light Tears Away.” That, too, has been shelved.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me dozens of times ...
The sudden actions came in the wake of the shocking disclosure to Oprah that Clark Kent – and his alter ego Superman – were fictional characters.
This, in turn, follows another discredited story endorsed by Oprah – “Angel at the Fence,” the unlikely tale of romance blossoming amid concentration camp misery.
“This just came right out of the blue,” said a spokeswoman for Oprah. “Oprah really feels blindsided by this. She’s had Clark … or whatever his real name is … over to her mansion on several occasions, even for dinner, polo, fox hunting and hot-air ballooning, sometimes simultaneously. She opened her heart to him and his story.”
“One doesn’t easily take betrayals like this, but she’ll get over it, and she’ll be the wiser for it,” she added.
In fact, Oprah, now reeling from the backlash surrounding her rapid-fire endorsement of multiple hoax stories, has instructed her franchise to swiftly cull through other pending ventures. As a result, book deals, interviews, sponsorships, scholarships and endowments have been cancelled for a number of suspect entities, including the Tooth Fairy, Peter Pan, Snow White, and several others, although Oprah spokespersons would not confirm their identities.
Barren Folk, a psychiatrist specializing in troubled toddlers and entertainment stars, says that Oprah’s invitation for Clark Kent to reveal his identity as Superman to the world on her talk show stage and her investment in other similarly puerile ruses betray a “childlike gullibility” and raise serious questions about Oprah’s own credibility.
“She’s not a journalist or a book publisher, but sometimes she likes to play one on TV,” he said.
According to Folk, who cites many anonymous sources within the entertainment industry, one of the most glaring examples of Oprah’s naiveté was a reconciliation-themed show the gifted gabber had planned for next year.
“It was going to feature a joint guest appearance by ‘Sylvester and Tweety Bird.’ Oprah was sold on the idea of having them talk about their own reconciliation and was going to make ‘Tweety Bird’s’ book, ‘Tweety Bird and Sylvester, How I Learned to Turn the Other Beak’ her book of the month.
Folk said that Oprah would likely benefit from counseling. “She’s basically a chatty, wealthy child surrounded by fawning staffers who bring her shiny trophy celebrities with whom she trades gratuitous affectations. She’s not well acquainted with areas of the universe that exist independently of Oprah, which probably explains these recent difficulties.”
