Hollywood gossip channels are always looking for something scintillating to write about and sometimes looks to create stories where they don’t exist. It is quite likely that is the case with what some gossipers are whispering is a quiet snub by Paltrow on a natural cleaner promoted by Jessica Alba. Academy Award winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, age 41, is known for her healthy, organic lifestyle which also includes natural cleaners and household products. She tests out green products in her own home and ranks them on her own blog newsletter called “Goop”.
In her latest newsletter, she reviews her latest batch of field tested green products which included Jessica Alba’s green all-purpose cleanser from her “Honest Company”. Interestingly enough, she gave the product a C grade. Underscoring the ranking, Paltrow posted a blog comment that she tried out products only to find that their much touted benefits were more marketing pitches than they were actual substance. Given the C-rating Alba’s product received, one can surmise that Paltrow is saying it’s heavy on hype and short on substance. Nevertheless, she’s entitled to her own opinion.
However, here’s where things get a little messy. It turns out that last year, Jessica Alba, age 32, was on a book tour for her title “The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You”. There are striking similarities between what Alba is doing with her Honest Company and what Paltrow does. So naturally, a reporter asked Alba if she took inspiration from Paltrow’s example. What Alba said was construed by some as an insult to Paltrow. Alba explained that while there are similarities between the two ladies’ quest to use green products, the key difference is Paltrow is a moneyed individual and Alba is more grounded and apt to make due with what’s readily available in the house. Given that comment, some are speculating if Paltrow’s C-rating of Alba’s products was payback. Time will tell.
